SEI surprises opponents in SUEZ Raid 2007 …
Sunday morning 7 October, the village of Le Rouret in the south of the Ardèche, France, gradually emptied, when the athletes and supporters of 108 teams returned home after a new, exciting SUEZ Raid 2007. Unlike pessimistic weather forecasts, the three competition days took place from 4 to 6 October 2007 under a bright autumn sun, only interrupted by a short cloudburst on Friday afternoon.
The website also contains a detailed overview of the various SEI rankings per activity.
When analyzing the results of our SEI teams, you will see that all of them put down strong results in one or more segments. The difficulty of the SUEZ Raid is however to keep up a constant performance over the three competition days, which is far from being simple due to the quick succession of activities, the steep, rocky, slippery trails, and the fact that it is not obvious for all athletes to be equally strong in two or three different sport disciplines. This explains why, as the race progressed, some of our teams had to slow down their pace, or even skip some activities, unfortunately resulting in penalties. But all this is part of a RAID competition. The most important is that athletes act as a team agreeing on setting a common objective in line with the possibilities of each individual.
… and SEI Express conquers 5th place in the general ranking.
The athletes finished their last activity (12 km orientation course) late Saturday afternoon. The previous days, we had followed up the results of our teams, and saw SEI Express gradually climbing in the ranking, reaching the 16th place by Friday evening. You can easily understand that on Saturday evening we could not wait to go to the prizing ceremony, silently hoping that SEI Express would have maintained its 16th position. The first SEI teams that were called on the podium were SEI LNG Unlimited - 106th place, SEI Xtreme Team North America - 92nd place, Yalla Dubai Synergies – 86th place, SEI Speed E-Ironmen - 75th place, SEIze US -72nd place and SEI Tango Feroz - 70th place. Then followed a long enumeration of non-SEI teams… and an incredible outburst of joy with all SEI participants, when the presenter announced that the SEI Express team had finally conquered the 5th place in the general ranking.
We are very proud of this best RAID result ever for an SEI team, which was composed of representatives of three of the SEI regions (SENA, SEMEAA and SGLNG). This performance is even more surprising if you consider that these athletes had never met before the RAID, not to mention trained together as it is the case with most of the other competing teams.
In the general Raid 2007 ranking, SEI Express was only preceded by n°4 SITA Star, n°3 SES Jokers, n° Fluxys Men and n° 1 Electrabel “Masters of Energy”, meaning that all SUEZ business lines were represented in the Top 5.
For next year’s RAID, we hope to send again several motivated SEI teams …
